Creating solutions for fashion Industry factory waste fabrics
I brought these piles of fabric to show visually and physically how much waste happens when garments are mass produced. When garments are made because of the lack of consideration of how to use the stacks of shapes created when pattern parts are laid out 30% of the fabric designers buy goes to the landfill. For example: When a batch of tee shirts are cut out 30% of the fabric is thrown away do to it being between the oddly shaped pattern pieces. I have discover a way that fashion designers can design with the pattern area that has historically been thrown away. I am appy recycling exists, yet I encourgae designers to keep the fabric in use, to try to design with the fabric between the traditional pattern parts. The parts are created in stacks of same shape pieces. These shapes and quantities of pieces are predetermined before anything is cut out. So that creates a bold opertunity for design.
